Beach Links
Professional Championship Golf Coming to The Beach Coast

By Mike Morse
In case you hadn’t heard, the Senior PGA Golf Tournament will be held at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan, from May 22 to May 27, 2012.
An All-star Field
Names including, but not
limited to, Watson, O’Meara, Couples, Strange, Calcavecchia, and Irwin promise
to be a part of one of the most accomplished fields of golfers ever assembled.
Indeed, at least 8 Senior PGA Champions, 19 winners of Major Championships (7
from The Masters, 8 from the US Open, 5 from the British Open, and 3 from the
PGA Championship), 5 past Ryder Cup Captains, and 6 Hall of Fame members will
be on hand to compete for this coveted championship.
The Course
This Jack Nicklaus Signature
Design golf course is only in its 3rd full season of operation, but
its reputation as one of the premiere mid-western golf courses is quickly
growing. The varied terrain includes 3 holes through the dunes located on the
shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, 4 holes twisting and turning through
hardwood forestland, and 11 holes alongside the Paw Paw River and Ox Creek and
its associated wetlands.
Not Just Another Pretty
Face
Although the course is a beautiful and unique setting, the
pros will soon find the challenges that such a setting holds for the golfer.
Although this is not the longest course at 6822 yards, skill will be a
necessity for good scores. If playing next to, around, or over water is not scary
enough, the tricks that are played by the Lake Michigan winds are sure to make
things very interesting.
The efforts of the corporate sponsor, KitchenAid®, and the more than 1200 volunteers are sure to make this an event that will be remarkable for the players, the spectators, and the entire Beach Coast community.
