Historic Arbor Hill Inn
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the W.A. Jones Estate and the 15th year of their business, the owners of Arbor Hill Inn in La Porte held several events including “An Evening with W. A. Jones” (8/21) and an open house (8/29). Actor Robert Richter portrayed W. A. Jones and Arbor Hill was pleased to welcome special guest, Anna Mae Pickering, great granddaughter of W. A. Jones. Both events featured delicious refreshments and were attended by many well-wishers from La Porte and neighboring communities.

Dunebrook Brings Back The Roaring 20s
Founded in 1989, Dunebrook’s mission is to advocate for children and provide family support and education. Their annual fundraiser had a “Speakeasy” theme and was held September 11th at The Allure in La Porte, IN. Approximately 200 guests attended (many in costume). Silent and live auctions were held, with all proceeds benefiting Dunebrook programs. Emmy award-winning investigative reporter, Amy Lange (a Michigan City native) was Mistress-of-Ceremonies.

Girls’ Night Out
Serenity Springs, Shady Creek Winery, and 5:01 Spa Diva (Michelle Castor of BeautiControl) sponsored a Girls’ Night Out on September 15th at Shady Creek Winery in Michigan City. The ladies (and a few brave men) enjoyed their evening of food provided by local restaurants and caterers, Shady Creek wine, and pampering by the Spa Diva.

Laciak>cpa Sponsors Team for Start! Heart Walk
On September 18th, Laciak>cpa (with offices in Schererville and Valpo) sponsored a team for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Start! Heart Walk. Laciak associates collected donations totaling close to $7500 from colleagues, friends, family, and business partners to fund the important work of the AHA. The walk was held at the Lake County Fair Grounds and attracted approximately 500 walkers from northwest Indiana communities.

Lubeznik Center’s Annual Lakefront Art Festival
With more than 6000 in attendance, this year’s festival, held August 21-22, was bigger and better than ever. Exhibiting work were 96 of the country’s finest artists and crafts people. $3000 in cash awards were presented to exhibiting artists in five categories.

Marquette Catholic High School Block Party
On August 27th, Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City, IN, hosted its very first block party. The party was held outside the school and lasted well into the night. Approximately 460 current students, family, friends and alumni attended the event, which featured food, live music, and fun. It was such a success that plans for a 2011 Block Party are underway.
