Designers’ Guild of Southwest Michigan Kicks off Boys & Girls Club Campaign
On March 26th, a cocktail reception was held at the Union Pier home of interior designers Cary Frank and John Cannon who, along with Suellen Long, are co-chairs of the Designers’ Garage Sale, which will be held May 28-29 in New Buffalo. The evening was underwritten by George Jewell Catering and the grand benefactor of the event is Whirlpool Corporation. The kick-off reception was an enormously successful fundraiser attended by more than 200 supporters.

Marquette Catholic Holds Annual Marian Tea
Senior girls and their mothers gathered for the annual Marian Tea, which was held at the Barker Mansion in Michigan City on April 14th. Guest speaker was alumna Dr. Linda Rooney-Dutlinger (’66).

Taste of La Lumiere
On March 8th more than 600 family members, students, and people from the area gathered for the 20th annual Taste of La Lumiere held at the school’s campus in La Porte. Foods from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas were prepared by La Lumiere students, parents, and volunteers and those attending had the opportunity to choose from 142 dishes from 42 countries. This event was started 20 years ago by faculty member, Dr. Miriam Nasidi, and a very small group of students.

Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce Hosts Annual Meeting
Nearly 200 Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce members and guests attended the annual membership meeting at historic Barker Hall on April 16th. The theme was “Reflecting on our Past, Creating our Future.” Actors portraying key figures in our city’s past (Isaac C. Elston, John H. Barker, Martin Krueger, and Harriet Colfax) mingled with the crowd and shared stories of their lives in Michigan City.
